Leanne Syrup
Leanne is in the white hat

Last night my dad showed me the female records for swimming and I found Leanne  Wilkinson in almost all of the blocks. My head couch's  name is '' Leanne Syrup'' so I thought that it might be possible that before she got married her last name was Wilkinson. My dad looked on the internet ''Leanne Syrup/ Wilkinson'' and what came up  was head couch of Duncan Stingrays.''The next morning I decided to do some research about her, and I didn't have a lot of information because the first record she broke was in ''1983''. I called the library to see if they have microfiche for newspaper back in the early 80's , but they didn't. They suggested calling the Vancouver Island University that was close by, I called and they said that they would look. So while she was looking we called the Victoria library and they didn't have anything, but suggested calling UVIC. So we called UVIC  and they gave us to a ''newspaper librarian''and she said that they didn't  have anything then  the lady from the University in Duncan  said that they had the local newspaper on microfiche, but not indexed. You would have to look through it to find what you need. what I learned from all the calling and asking questions was that a lot of stuff like newspaper gets lost and can never be found again, and that if you wont to find a picture from the 1983 for an example you wouldn't find it because back then they didn't have digital, they had analogue processes to take pictures. One more thing is that they didn't have computers or the internet!

  1. Great learning Rahma. Way to pursue your interest, even when you were meeting dead ends. I wonder if you could phone a local newspaper and see if they have any digital or microfiche records? Perhaps you could search their archives online? Even CBC might have something in their archives.
