Today was a special day for me, I printed my first linocut onto my very own custom bag. I've been getting back into my artistic side recently and decided to try some new mediums. Usually, I stick with classic pencil on paper but I wanted to explore and try something completely different, linocut block printing. Linocut is a printmaking technique, its a sheet of linoleum sometimes mounted onto a wooden block. The linoleum sheet is inked with a roller and then pressed onto paper or fabric. Carving onto my linoleum sheet was an experience itself. I spent day one drawing out my design, figuring out my black and white space to enhance my design. Later that day I lay my drawing on top of the sheet of linoleum and took a pen and retraced it onto the sheet then took a maker to redraw it onto the sheet of linoleum. Day two I started to carve using the speedball no.37 linozips to carve out my design. It was a lot harder than I thought got a couple of cuts and hand cramps. it took me three nights to finish my carving, but on day four I used the speedball fabric block printing ink to print my design onto a tote bag. Throughout his process, I learnt that you need a lot of ink for your print to not turn out faint onto whatever your printing on and that with patience comes great success.
